The Weight of Preparation

My Body of Work examines the quiet, unglamorous reality of athletic dedication through the lens of graphite still life. Rather than focusing on the fleeting spectacle of a game or the triumph of a finish line, these drawings isolate the private, repetitive moments that happen before and after. By treating both the human body and everyday objects with the same meticulous detail, the collection blurs the line between the athlete and their tools, presenting physical subjects and gear as equal artefacts of effort. The use of graphite, a medium built on friction, pressure and gradual accumulation - mirrors the physical grind of training itself. Functioning as direct studies of physical strain, these drawings shift the focus away from action and onto the raw reality of preparation.
