Inherited Distances
My work investigates intrafamilial fragmentation across three generations. I render elders in hyper realistic graphite; fixed, heavy, historically sedimented, while younger kin emerge through expressive abstraction, their unresolved linework encoding a severance from ancestral continuity. This stylistic divide mirrors the eroded rituals and shifting values that carve invisible rifts between those who share blood yet cannot hold each other in focus. Working with traditional graphite, I engage with realism only to subvert it, exposing the fractured nature of contemporary familial identity and the gaze that no longer lands.
