My Body of Work explores my Chinese cultural heritage and the influence of my Buddhist beliefs through the symbolism and ritual of incense. I am interested in how incense functions beyond a physical object, acting as a connection between memory, spirituality, family traditions and cultural identity. Ritual practices often carry emotional and symbolic significance, creating moments of reflection that connect individuals across generations and cultural experiences. I am particularly interested in the transient nature of smoke, ash and ritual processes and how these can represent ideas of impermanence, spiritual presence and the passage of time. Using photography, video and installation, I investigate the sensory and immersive qualities associated with ritual practice. Through this work I hope to communicate the ways traditions and beliefs continue to exist through traces, gestures and shared experiences across time.
